Most Popular Cat Nicknames

Cats are more than just pets; they’re family members! And every furball deserves a fabulous nickname that suits their purr-sonality. Maybe it happens organically, but at some point, we’ve all called our cats by some ridiculous nickname (that’s not even close to their actual name)!

Every pet has a name and about 20 other nicknames that likely started as some variation of their name and have morphed into something absolutely out of control. Whether your kitty is a dainty princess or a mischievous troublemaker, there’s a nickname out there waiting to be bestowed upon them. Let’s share some of our favorite things that we’ve discovered.

Nicknames for a Girl Cat

Buffy, our editor’s beautiful long-haired cat, quickly became Fluffy Buffy. Now, she roams the halls of the house only to be addressed as Princess Fluff. She knows people are her royal subjects, and she’ll never let them forget it.

Another favorite is “Little Bean,” which somehow morphed into just “Bean” and now “Beanie Baby.” I dare you to find a more endearing nickname. (P.S. – you’ll never venture to guess the pet’s actual name.)

Nicknames for a Boy Cat

A black cat named Jack who has a wildly mischievous personality comes from a family of the editorial team’s friend. His nickname started with Jack Attack and has gradually morphed into “Sour Patch Kid.” No, we don’t have a better explanation, but if you met him, you’d immediately understand.

Cute Nicknames

Cute nicknames for kittens are often easy to find, but here are a few of our favorite cute cat nicknames:

  • Nugget (variations include Nuggy, Nug, Bug, Nugatron, etc.)

  • Speedy (for the cats that often get the zoomies)

  • Mister Whisker (also affectionately referred to as Whiskerface, Whiskey, and Whiskers)

  • Meowzilla (for the cats whose middle name might be “destruction”)

  • Fluffernutter (because your kitty is fluffy and sweet like a marshmallow sandwich)
