Dear ladies and gents, this is your Basepaws Health Marker report!

Health Marker Report is the section of the basic Basepaws Cat DNA Report which test for over 39 genetic mutations that correspond to 17 genetic conditions. Here you will be able to discover if your cat has tested positive for a genetic variant associated with any of the genetic diseases included in our database.

One of the sections that we are most excited about is the Chromosome Painting, a beautiful visual representation of the genetic similarities of your cat’s DNA. Allow us to walk you through the usefulness of this unique feature, so that we may provide some clarity on the newly available information.
On our journey towards a better future for all cats, we are leading novel discoveries and advances in the field of feline science and genetics. As we continue to grasp new knowledge and information, we drive the focus on research initiatives which can help improve the understanding of feline biology and improve the health management of cats everywhere. Today, we are thrilled to announce our new research initiative - the Basepaws Feline Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Research Project!
Since the launch, the Basepaws team has been striving to create one of the largest databases of feline genetic and physical information in an effort to improve feline health and learn more about the genetic basis of cat breeds. Seeing as how most domestic breeds are relatively young (created in mid 1800s - present), our work would have been daunting without your help. We have received a fantastic amount of support from cat parents around the world and are proud to announce the second iteration of our report!
Unlike dogs, most cats do not have purebred ancestors (read our previous blog for more about the recent history of cat breeds). However, every cat shares more ancestors with some cat breeds than others. In order to serve all cats regardless of their pedigree, Basepaws developed a Breed Index that can be used by any Domestic or purebred cat.
